Garage doors come in a variety of styles – the six most common are sectional, rolling, side-sliding, side-hinged, roof, and retractable. Like the side hinges, awning garage doors don’t have sections – they’re made from a single piece. The side hinges are not sections but use two solid parts of the material that meet in the middle of the garage door opening. Swing doors are usually made of wood, similar to barn-style doors, but steel is also a solid choice for these classic garage door types.
Many traditional doors are available in steel or wood, which can be insulated. The most popular type, these doors feature horizontally hinged sections that roll up and then back along the garage ceiling, often with a power spring-loaded door opener. Recently, there has been an increased demand for old-fashioned designs, especially garages with obstacles or limited free space.
