Leaky Garage Doors: What to Do

If you are experiencing leakage coming from your garage door, this is definitely not something to ignore. Water and moisture in your garage can cause some serious damage to the items stored inside. The best thing to do, is to seek to identify the problem quickly so that you can stop the leak. The most common issue is old or damaged seals around the outer edges of the garage door but the more serious issue could be a drainage problem.

The first thing you could do is go out and thoroughly examine the seals around the edges of the garage door for any cracks or degradation. If you see any of this, it is likely the cause of the leaking and the simplest solution would be to replace the seals. If your garage door is quite new, this is unlikely to be the problem.

To check for any drainage issues, go out on a day that is particularly wet and rainy, and look for any evidence of a drainage problem. It should be apparent if water is collecting at your garage door during a storm or if the door itself is covered in dirt and grime from a recent storm. If this is the case, you will need to get a drainage system installed by a professional.
